Schools Activity Days

During 2011 over 1000 children have enjoyed learning and creating at the Forest as part of BHP Billiton Nickel West sponsored activity days. Activity days are varied program from all curriculum areas.  Book early to be part of this wonderful experience in 2012.  Over 4000 native seedlings were planted as part of our 2011 series of activity days.

Community Events

During 2012 we once again will be holding a range of community events including our exciting night stalks at the forest to hunt for bats and other creatures of the night.  Our annual music in the forest will be held again during September. These events are being proudly sponsored by BHP Billiton Nickel West and a Federal NRM Caring for Country grant.  Our new community flyer for 2012 will be out soon.

Community Service Program

This program began in 2009 thanks to a DET Community Service Grant.  The program has continued and grown with thanks to BHP Billiton Nickel West support.  Any school interested in their students assisting with works at the forest should contact our Project Officer.  The contribution by community service volunteers is much appreciated at the forest and we are keen for this program to continue.

Tasks undertaken by year 10-12 students during 2011 included; mulching of trails, weeding, planting, irrigation repairs, plant monitoring, cleaning of classroom area, equipment stock-take, painting a banner, installing signs and walk trail bollards, surveying birds, constructing and painting wildlife nest boxes and injecting trees with phosphite.

Activities can be tailored to the learning areas and needs of participating children, volunteers, or corporate staff including:

bulletchildren from Kindergarten–year 10;
bulletcorporate staff team-building activities (include weeding, planting, painting possum boxes, installing signs and laying slate tiles in the outdoor classroom);
bulletyear 10-12 community service volunteer work.

Many local community members volunteer with the Baldivis Children's Forest project in a myriad of ways and have a lot of fun in the process. For more information email mary.rayner@det.wa.edu.au during school terms.
